Right to repair may be the start of something good.
A state in the US is trying to push through legislation that will force car manufacturers to release any and all data required to repair a vehicle.
Currently modern cars have computers that control and monitor many different functions, these computers are not serviceable except at the manufacturers own dealerships.
The new legislation will require manufacturers to release this data to allow owners to repair their own car at a location of their choice.
How will this affect us? Well data has an uncanny knack of leaking everywhere once it has been freed. I would also guess that once/if it has passed into law other states will follow and knowing the EU they may also follow suite.
For anyone who has had an electronic fault in their car and been forced to go to the main dealer for repairs this is good news.
